No one wants to wake up and find that they have a bad breakout on their face. When it does happen, most women run to their bottle of cover up and start dabbing it on. Try to avoid this, as it will only cause more breakouts due to the ingredients in the makeup which clogs pores. So what else causes breakouts? Ancient Chinese philosophy says that the human face is a map of their internal organs in the rest of their body. If you know the map, you can pinpoint what is causing breakouts on a certain area of your face. Let me break it down:
- Breaking out on your chin could be caused by hormonal problems (such as PMS) or a kidney imbalance.
- Acne on your nose has to do with eating poorly or a gastrointestinal imbalance.
- An excess of sugar, stomach problems, or stress could cause problems with your cheeks.
- Forehead, temples, between the eyes: Drinking too much alcohol, digestive problems, and a buildup of toxins.

- Try to avoid touching your face, and under no circumstances should you pick at your acne.
- Phones are a big cause of breakouts on your chin—periodically wipe down your cell with rubbing alcohol.
- Acne can be caused by a buildup of toxins in your body. During a breakout, drink half a gallon of water daily to filter out these toxins (and keep drinking it even when your skin is clear!)
- Change your pillowcases…having your face against a dirty pillowcase is a surefire way to get pimples.
- Avoid turtlenecks and scarves. They cause breakouts on your neck and chin area. If you must wear scarves, be sure to wash them regularly (which most people don’t).
- Be sure to wash your makeup brushes! I have so many women in their late 20s and 30s come in and tell me they have never broken out before and all of a sudden are having problems. The reason is almost always because they switch to mineral and loose powder makeup and fail to wash the brushes.
- Be sure to keep up with your skincare routine during the change of seasons. Change of environment= more breakouts.
