Healthy Skin for the Holidays

As any skincare diva knows, healthy skin is a must-have for any look, and as the winter months head our way make sure you not only bundle up, but focus on refreshing your skin with the dry winter weather. Freshly fallen snow is gorgeous- but the weather that comes with it really does a number on your skin. The winter months can make even the softest and most hydrated skin dry and uncomfortable. During these chilly months, I always use Extreme Barrier Cream by Epionce– it works better for dry and itchy skin than anything else I’ve ever tried- I suggest it to clients with the most sensitive skin. Cuddle up to the fire with some delicious hot cocoa and read this advice from yours truly, Robin Erb!

One of my favorite products is our own home-made Robin Erb oil smooth-over. The combination of essential oils, natural herbs, and Vitamin E will not only keep your skin healthy and fresh, but also smells amazing! It always leaves my skin feeling refreshed. In addition to healing your dry skin, my exclusive smooth-over also helps hide those sneaky signs of aging like dark under-eye circles and wrinkles. Now you can stay up for New Years and look surprisingly refreshed the next morning!

Another thing that is hard to hide in the winter (aside from Christmas presents) are those bumps on the back of your arms. So many women have this but don’t do anything about it because they don’t know how easy it is to fix. There’s a small, fool-proof solution to this common problem that’s big in name and results; Kerotosis Pilaris lotion. It works wonders and my spa guests adore it! So come visit me, follow my twitter @RobinErb, and get glamorous just in time for he holiday season!

All About Aromatherapy

July 20, 2011

Lately, I’ve been really into relaxation and the different effects scents can have on us. Aromatherapy is great because it uses essential oils from plants to benefit the human mind, body, and spirit.

Bath & Body Works has a really yummy body wash that’s inexpensive and smells amazing! It’s called Eucalyptus Spearmint Stress Relief body lotion. The eucalyptus and spearmint scent is clean, invigorating, and kind of gives me a boost. It’s also really hydrating! Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy line is really nice and I recommend it.

There’s this amazing French line called Darphin that has a great Organic Aromatic Care line. It’s a little pricey but has amazing results. Right now I’m using the Organic Jasmine Aromatic Care and it is amazing. They also have Organic Rose Aromatic Care, which is really good for sensitive skin, and the 8-Flower Aromatic Care is really yummy. The Organic Tangerine Aromatic Care works really well to brighten skin. I make my own line of skin oils similar to these, but Darphin is nice if you can’t come to me. I love these oils though; they’re very yummy!

When applying an aromatic care product, apply 5 drops of oil to the face and neck with circular motions from the inner to the outer part of the face. Then follow with the appropriate cream or fluid.

My other favorite hydrating product is the High Shine Hydrating Gloss Stick. It’s produced by Jemma Kidd, a makeup artist who started her own small line! The gloss is in lipstick form and is SPF 15, which is great for the sun in the summer! My favorite shade is Paradise, a beautiful sheer, apricot color.

I also have two new eyeshadows everybody should try! They’re Rule and Coppering by MAC. Rule looks bright orange, but when it’s applied to the lid it’s a burnt apricot shade. It looks really cool and definitely makes the eyes pop! My favorite thing to do with Coppering is put it on top of and under my lid and smudge it, it gives it a really cool look.

Bobbi Brown’s Moisture Tint Balm is great because it gives the skin a nice dewy look, and L’Oreal’s Telescopic Mascara is great because it makes the lashes look so long and beautiful. These two are always on my favorites list. Go check them out if you haven’t already!

Cheeky For Spring

As the weather gets warmer, we’re switching up our winter coats for pretty florals and pastels. With a new spring wardrobe, it’s important to change your makeup to match the vibrant colors of spring. Aside from new colors for eye shadow and lipstick, it’s always important to keep a bright, cheery face by using blush.

I love different shades of apricot and peach on everyone. Blush is important to give you a fresh, spring-ready face. It’s best to use a highlighter along with a blush. For highlighter, use any light shimmery face cream or powder. Pat the highlighter down the middle of the nose and on top of the cheekbones. Then the blush goes on the apple of your cheeks giving you a dewy, fresh look. With a shimmer, you’re going to have a glow about you that looks fabulous!

I recommend using apricot with a tint of gold on the apple of your cheeks to enhance your look. Many people think that darker skin tones won’t be able to show off shimmer, but the truth is copper skin makes shimmer look even better. I recommend blushes such as Chanel’s Joues Contraste Blush in Espiegle or MAC’s Mineralize Blush in Petticoat for the perfect combination of apricot and gold.

A major concern I hear about blush that it can fade quickly, or doesn’t last long enough. If you’re experiencing this issue be sure to use a spray on primer once you’re done with applying makeup to keep everything in place. I recommend Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray or Makeup Forever’s Mist and Fix Primer Spray. Both will keep your look in place and make your beauty last all day and night!

Other than keeping your look natural and fresh with blush, what other types of makeup do you go to add a touch of spring to your look?

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

April 10, 2011

As spring rolls around it is time for some spring-cleaning. Move on from the old favorites and love the new. Here are my top seven favorite things (from massages to bartenders) for the spring:

  1. Anyone in need of advice or guidance head over to Bloomingdales at Chestnut Hill Mall and when you arrive ask for Kay at the Christian Dior cosmetics counter. Kay is great, and not only knows Christian Dior like the back of her hand but anything regarding cosmetics. She’s my go to gal.
  2. Once you have finished with Kay, head over to Rainbow located on Gloucester Street. Here you will receive the best massage. Not only will they work away any kink or ache but also they are very warm and inviting.
  3. In order to look fresh and hydrated for any springtime plans you need a few key items. The first step you need to do is invested in Bobbi Brown Cosmetics; specifically her Intensive Moisturizing Tinted Balm with SPF 25 and Night Care Moisturizing Balm. The intensive moisturizing balm with SPF 25 allows healthy coverage during the daytime and adds a nice glow. Warm the balm in your hand and then gently rub around your face. The Night Care Moisturizing Balm is perfect for hydration (especially for people with dry skin) and makes the skin absolutely gorgeous. With this balm, be aware it is very thick. You must apply and rub the moisturizer around your face until it liquefies.
  4. For the perfect healthy look, splurge with Shiseido eye and lip cream called Future Solution. This cream will hydrate the skin and improves all signs of aging. I can honestly say you can feel the cream hydrating and lifting the skin.
  5. The next favorite is a must! Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment found at Sephora is the perfect tool to hydrate and protects your lips. Did you know chapsticks actually make you lips more chapped? So, stay away and invest in Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment.
  6. The scent of the spring is Jasmine Sambac by Modern Alchemy, and is my personal favorite. It’s a solid perfume made out of the purest jasmine with a combination of amber and black pepper. The packaging is adorable; placed in a pocket watch it adds a sense of “Old World class.”
  7. Finally, if you’re tired of sitting inside now that winter has ended, I suggest going to Towne Stove and Spirits. Here, there is the most attentive bartender named Michael. He never forgets a drink order and is personable and fun with everyone. He definitely knows how to make you feel special. If you want one drink or two, Towne is a great place to be.

So those are just a few of my favorite things. What can’t you live without this spring?

Your Big Look for Your Big Day

April 5, 2011

A woman’s wedding day is something she dreams about from the time she’s a little girl up through the big day. So how does she make her skin perfect for such a special day? These tips and tricks will leave a bride-to-be’s skin looking radiant and refreshing.

  • Talk to your beauty consultant: I like to see my clients 4 months in advance so we can establish a good skin regimen and have time to reshape their eyebrows if necessary. The trick to having a perfect brow for your wedding is letting them grow out 3 months in advance. Yes, this can be brutal, but if you let someone clean them up every 3 weeks or so, it is manageable.  By letting them grow out, you can have them shaped perfectly by your wedding – avoiding the horrid drawn on brow scenario.

  • Get your skin in shape: You should keep your skin’s pH balanced by having a good beauty regimen and coming in for peels once a month before your wedding. This can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and will allow your moisturizers to have a more dramatic effect on your skin. I suggest using my moisturizers along with coming in regularly for peels.
  • It’s all about color: Be sure to speak with your consultant a few months early for trial make-up run. I like to meet with my brides so we can decide on the color and shades of her make-up. You should bring in pictures of your bridesmaid dresses and examples of the color scheme so you can match your make up with your wedding. You don’t want to end up with pink flowers and coral make-up. Also, it’s always best to have a trial run with your make-up before the big day so it can be tweaked to your liking.
  • On the day: Always, always, always remember to wear waterproof mascara! You don’t want your make up washing away when you get emotional. And remember to get your lip color from your make-up artist so you can reapply throughout the wedding even when she is gone.
  • Activities before and after the wedding: On a final note, always remember your bridesmaids when pampering yourself. Bring them along one day for peels and a trial make-up run for them before your wedding as a girl’s day out so everyone’s looking good for the wedding. Also, remember your Brazilian for the honeymoon! There’s no shame in surprising your new hubby.

How are you preparing your skin for the big day?

Hydrate, Moisturize, Peel! The Keys To Perfect Skin!

Are you one of those who think that their face will never be as clear and radiant as celebrities? If your answer is yes you’re probably right. We all know it’s airbrush! However, there are ways to achieve the best looking skin possible. You just have to develop the right habits.

  • Make sure you start with a good skincare regime as soon as possible. The younger you start, the better. If you’re a mother, teach your daughter how to wash her face twice a day and constantly stay hydrated.
  • As girls get a bit older, from their teens to their 20’s, it’s important to start using a cleanser and getting facials every now and then, to hydrate the skin more deeply. Don’t let a day go by without moisturizing. I highly recommend using facial oils at night. They contain nutrients that are good for the skin like antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
  • When comes your 30’s, you need to start getting peels and using professional advice for your skin. Peels are a wonderful way to keep your skin hydrated and prevent wrinkles. They can also help prevent sun damage and skin cancer. Our face is worn everyday for our entire life, and there’s no way of hiding it. It is totally worth spending the money.
  • How often should you get a peel? For those in their 20’s, I recommend getting one at the end of every season. In your 30’s you should think about getting it more often, at least every other month.

Do you have any questions about peels or the right way to treat your skin? Please leave a comment!

Robin’s Spring ’11 Favorites

March 25, 2011

Spring is here and I have recently found some great products for you all to try! They are all great for spring and can help you transition into summer as well. The colors of the products will definitely add a ‘pop’ to any outfit and will look great with any skin tone.

I have a new favorite lipstick that’s a very different look, but it looks GREAT on everybody. It’s MAC’s So Chaud (meaning ‘so hot’ en francais). It’s a matte coral-orange color and looks amazing no matter what your skin tone is. It’s a perfect complement to the spring weather and definitely worth a try. The summer version of this color is MAC’s Ruby Woo, which also looks fabulous on everybody, no matter what.

There is a nail color that looks great with the MAC So Chaud and Ruby Woo by OPI. It’s called Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It.  It’s almost a bright orange color, but looks so good especially with the MAC lipstick to match. I like OPI because they have a great laquer, they always get it, and they’re usually the ones to start the trends.

Next, to help prevent sun damage and keep skin hydrated, I strongly recommend Bobbi Brown’s Moisture Tint Balm. It is SPF 25 to help you prevent damage by the sun when you’re walking to work or at the park with the kids, anywhere outside while enjoying the beautiful weather. The Moisture Tint Balm makes your skin look so dewy, but don’t be afraid of it! There is no heaviness to it. It will make your skin look beautiful and perfect; everybody has to run out and get this product.

Something that is always on my favorites list is L’Orèal’s Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black. It makes the lashes really dark and long which is always in style. It adds intense length and also features lash by lash separation. Don’t forget when applying mascara, wiggle the wand at the base of the lashes upward to create the illusion of length, and separate each lash.

Finally, my favorite scent for spring is Serge Luten’s Louve Eau de Parfum. It’s an amber fragrance with a really warm, sweet, and sexy scent. You can find it at Barney’s and Bloomingdales, but a less expensive version can be found at Whole Foods. It’s an oil by Kuumba Made called Amber Paste. Some people find perfumes to be overpowering sometimes, but oils are a lot warmer than a harsh perfume and last on your skin longer.

What are some your favorite products for spring?
